When I first started writing Meet Me at the Ruins, it was just a creative writing project. When I decided to publish the resulting novel, my goals were modest, but I knew for sure I wanted the book to be available on Hoopla, Libby, and in libraries. This is, after all, how I consume the majority of books I read (mostly through Libby audiobooks; the other half are usually from used book stores, a top 5 favorite place to spend an hour and $20!)
Authors don’t generally make a lot of money from library check outs – I think my Hoopla checkouts will net me around $0.45 each, while Libby can be a little more due to the different checkout model. But having my book in libraries is a personal achievement that excites me no end. That $0.45 is going to make me beam from ear to ear (when I finally see it in 60-90 days!)
Libby was fairly quickly to approve Meet Me at the Ruins, but then Libby users need to request the book from their library, before the library will approve/purchase it. Hoopla can take up to 12 months to approve! But the book seems to be available more widely there now that Hoopla approved it.

Does your library have Meet Me at the Ruins on Hoopla or Libby yet? If so, please let me know, I’m keeping a list!
