Neurodivergence in Fiction

I had a wonderful conversation on a podcast recently (check out my podcast interviews here, this one will publish in a few weeks!) about neurodivergence in fiction. Some of the questions we explored were:

  • How has neurodivergence in fiction changed over the last 10-20 years?
  • Do Own Voices matter? Or can anyone write a neurodivergent character?
  • What makes a neurodivergent character feel authentic?
  • Do neurotypical and neurodivergent readers approach or metabolize books/stories differently?
  • Do authors need to label their neurodivergent characters?

What do you think? I have lots of thoughts on each of topics, but I’d love to hear your answers, instead!
